5 Fun Facts about the
Immortal Guardians Series
Hello! Thanks for joining us and helping us celebrate the release of the latest novel in my Immortal Guardians series: CLIFF’S DESCENT. If you like paranormal romance that features strong heroes who love strong women, action scenes that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and romance that is alternately steamy and sweet, then I think you’ll like Cliff and Emma’s story. :-)
For new readers AND for fans of the Immortal Guardians series, I thought I would share 5 Fun Facts about the Immortal Guardians series:
1
CLIFF’S DESCENT is the first book in the Immortal Guardians series that revolves around a vampire. When I began the series, I didn’t think I would ever write such a book because vampires in this series are the bad guys. They may start out good, but the virus that infects them and provides them with all of that wondrous speed and strength also causes progressive brain damage that swiftly renders them insane. But Cliff fights that madness so valiantly that I couldn’t imagine not telling his story.
2
Cliff is the first vampire in the series who succeeds in winning the Immortal respect and friendship of pretty much the entire Immortal Guardians crew. He even earns himself a seat at the table and a voice in some of their strategy meetings, eager to help them battle their worst enemy. While Roland is renowned for being the most antisocial Immortal Guardian, Cliff is renowned throughout their world for being the strongest and most honorable vampire any of them have encountered.
3
The Immortal Guardians series is full of powerful immortals who adore strong women. And though he’s a vampire, Cliff is no different. These men wouldn’t even think of trying to order around the women in their lives. (That would NOT go over well with their love interests. LOL) Rather they revel in the women’s strength and love to watch them wield it.
4
Pretty much all of the primary and secondary characters in my Immortal Guardians series love to laugh and tease each other. Hunting and slaying psychotic vampires night after night could potentially mire immortals (and the humans and gifted ones who aid them) in darkness, so they tend to lighten things up by indulging their comedic sides. Even some of the darkest moments have been lightened by humor. And one of the things Cliff loves about Emma is her ability to make him laugh even when he’s struggling the most.
5
Males in the Immortal Guardians series do not shy away from love. (For the IG fans out there: I know Bastien did a little, but that was merely because he worried associating with him would cost Melanie her career.) Having lived as long as many of them have, Immortal Guardians know how rare and precious love is. So they tend to embrace it whole-heartedly. And while Cliff hasn’t lived nearly as long, he embraces love as eagerly as his immortal friends have.
Thanks again for joining us! I hope you’ll enjoy CLIFF’S DESCENT!
ABOUT THE BOOK
Cliff's Descent: A Vampire's Tale
Immortal Guardians #11
By Dianne Duvall
Releasing date: July 27, 2021
For the first time, New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall brings readers a novel--set in the "fast-paced" (Publishers Weekly) and "totally addictive" (RT Book Reviews) world of the Immortal Guardians--that revolves around a vampire… one who has become a friend and trusted ally of the powerful warriors.
Every mortal who works at network headquarters knows that vampires reside below them. They were the first to surrender to the powerful Immortal Guardians who hunt them. And they did so, hoping they can be saved, that the doctors and scientists the Immortal Guardians employ can halt the progressive brain damage that robs all vampires of their sanity. Though curious, Emma never thought she would meet any of the vampires who remain under heavy guard several stories beneath her office. Then mercenaries strike, bombarding the building with heavy artillery. The vampires are freed to join the fray… and Cliff saves her life.
From that moment on, she can't stop thinking about him regardless of the restrictions placed on interactions with vampires. When Emma discovers a way to speak to Cliff at network headquarters, she becomes even more fascinated by him. He's smart, charming, and honorable to his core despite the darkness that lies ahead. And he seems to crave her company as much as she does his. Aware of the eyes that watch them, they keep their encounters innocent, limiting them to those of mere acquaintances. Nevertheless, their attraction grows and she soon falls in love with him even as the madness begins to claim him.
Cliff realizes his future is dark. As one vampire friend after another succumbs to insanity, hope that network doctors will be able to find a cure in time to keep him from meeting the same fate begins to dwindle, leaving him little to look forward to… until he meets Emma. Just speaking to her brings him a happiness and contentment he hasn't experienced since before his transformation. And when they finally find a way to be alone together, everything changes. Emma burrows her way right into his heart and quiets the voices. She sparks dreams of a future with her that strengthen his determination to beat back the madness. But as time passes, the voices grow louder and insanity begins to chip away at him until he fears it will eradicate every part of him she fell in love with.
Will the two of them find a way to defy the odds and find their happily-ever-after? Or will Cliff's descent consume him?

Stolen Lust by Charmaine Pauls
ABOUT THE BOOK
REVIEW
Charmaine Pauls knows dark romance, and Stolen Lust is no exception. There is a balance to the dubious consent concept that appeals to me. A love-hate relationship, or forceful union, an alpha male with a penchant for overpowering, when I want a dark romance, this is what I look for. The subject matter is not for everyone, although Stolen Lust is a bit tame in this department. But, like all her books, it creates an excellent tension with this type of theme.
A carjacking and kidnapping lead to immediate chemistry between Ian and Cas. Ian is immediately obsessed; Cas is intimidated but faces that, and the two of them are a wonderfully complex pairing. I was engrossed in their story, and the cliffhanger ensures I will be reading the next book in the series.

Scot Under the Covers by Suzanne Enoch
ABOUT THE BOOK
REVIEW
Miranda Harris finds herself in a dire situation. Her brother Michael, a recently reformed gambler, has a past debt that leads to blackmail. The terms state Miranda is to marry Captain Robert Vale or risk the reputation of her entire family. Against her better judgment, Miranda seeks help from Aden MacTaggert, who happens to be a gambler himself, looking for insight into the devious mind of her blackmailer.
Miranda is an intelligent female lead. She has excellent instincts and does not simply step back and hope for the man to save her. I worried her opinion on Aden's gambling pastime would cloud her judgment. She handles the situation well, using his actions to deduce his nature. I admire her for that.
Aden is a savvy, sexy, and confident Scot. He is casual when faced with Miranda's ire. Aden does not waste time attempting to sway her mind. He merely uses his knowledge to force Miranda's tormentor into making a mistake. I respected his stance on the subject. He is what he is, and one can take it or leave it.
During their mystery to solve, Miranda warms to Aden. Aden works well as Miranda's counterpart. Their ensuing courtship is delightful. I quite enjoyed the journey in Scot Under the Covers by Suzanne Enoch.

Nightlord: Sunset by Garon Whited
ABOUT THE BOOK
REVIEW
Eric's tale starts after meeting a beautiful woman in a bar and having a one-night stand. Sasha quickly confesses to Eric that he is the reincarnation of her lost love, and she has gifted him with the power of a Nightlord. Sasha's death leads Eric to track down her assassins. Eric locates their stronghold in a far-off land and jumps through a portal to exact justice for her death.
Eric apprises the reader of the world around him through his journal writings. Eric is entertaining. He is a bit self-deprecating while being witty. I often found myself laughing aloud at his quips. We see the unfamiliar world through his modern eyes, which helped me connect to it.
Eric provides insights into his experiences, detail on occurrences such as how he feeds and how his magic spells develop. I found these descriptions comprehensive and fascinating. Eric explains his changes on a biological level. He attempts to make sense of it rather than explaining it away as the supernatural. He contemplates things like his aversion to the water brought on by his metamorphosis or why his species may live a nocturnal existence. I appreciate the attempt to find the logical evolutionary cause of his inherent abilities. The mythos of a vampire is a common one, but the uniqueness in Nightlord is an engaging change.
The journey Eric has is a long and epic one. The reader follows while he learns a new language, meets the barons of many territories, and becomes a skilled magic and weapon user. During this, Eric gains loyal companions by being kind to commoners, freeing slaves, and battling among great knights. At times I found his explorations to be a bit too extensive. I stopped the story repeatedly in frustration feeling nothing of import was happening. Then at the culmination of his tale, the story abruptly ends. I understand the idea of a multi-book chronicle. But without a satisfying climactic ending, the cliffhanger felt like a ploy to pick up the subsequent book. Due to that, I am uncertain about moving forward with this series. I am eager to see what adventures lie ahead. However, I do not know if I can handle another story with more lengthy character interactions than plot resolutions.
