Blog Tour & SM Blast: Karolina Dalca, Dark Eyes by M. R. Noble

Karolina Dalca, Dark Eyes
by M.R. Noble

Blurb:

Blindsided by an attack that destroys her home and blamed for murder, Karolina Dalca, a half-vampire, escapes, only to plunge into the magical societies from which she was sheltered.

Betrayed by those around her, she abandons her dreams of becoming an investigator and flees, trusting only herself. Her police internship would never prove more useful. Hoofing it through the wilderness, she makes it to her university dorm, disheveled but delightfully deflowered.

Enter a full vampire: one wielding dark magic and a ride out of Canada. A fugitive from the law, Karo complies with his demands to escape, unsure whether his requests are bewitched. She vows to clear her name and avenge her mother's death, but Karo's family secrets aren't so easily left behind.

Excerpt

“Who are you anyway?” I asked.

“Andre,” he said. “Private Investigator, but I'll do anything for money.” He winked.

“You’re not human,” I said. “What are you?” I stretched out my Charmed senses and felt magic within him.

“I'm a vampire, princess. Same as you, but with a little extra dark superpower. I'm a full vamp though, and from what I can tell from your dismal amount of speed out there, you’re half.”

He dragged a chair from the wall and sat across from me.

“You have the Dark Charm?” I asked. “I should have figured; you ooze sleaze bag.”

“And you have a little something special up your sleeve too, don't you, princess? I bet you get a little hot now and then, don't you?”

            I narrowed my eyes.

“And with a name like Karolina Dalca . . . I bet you've got enough training to back up that look you’re giving me.”

He knew my name, my powers, and where to find me. My eyes fell over his body, sizing him up as he sat across from me. Strong jaw, tall, six feet and maybe four inches, and muscular broad shoulders. I could take him—if I took him by surprise.

About The Author

M. R. Noble has played a tug of war between science and art her whole life, but the rope broke when she wrote the first line of The Dark Eyes Series. Immersed up to her keyboard in paranormal romance and urban fantasy, she enjoys blending the real with the surreal. The only drawback is she misplaces her mug while dreaming up her next scene, and soon finds herself six cups overpoured.

Keeping to her Lake Simcoe roots, she is a member of the Writers Community of York Region (WCYR), where her muse is made not found . . . over a hefty cup of coffee.

Inferno by Donna Grant

ABOUT THE BOOK

Inferno is the explosive, most anticipated, final book in Donna Grant's Dark Kings series featuring Con, the King of the Dragon Kings!

I knew what I wanted. And nothing was going to stop me.

King of Dragon Kings. Driven, ruthless, shrewd. The weight of survival for Constantine and his brethren has pushed him to set aside his own yearnings—for now. He’s the most powerful of all Dragon Kings, and Con will stop at nothing to destroy anyone who dares to threaten his existence.

For years, Con has hidden his pain—his desperation—for there is one smoldering beauty that he craves above all else, even if he feels he doesn’t deserve her. However, his enemies are at every corner. There is no one left to trust. But none of that matters anymore: There is only one thing that Con wants. With this one woman by his side, he can fight for the freedom of his fellow men-in-arms. All Con has to do is get her to surrender her heart…and be his for all time.

REVIEW

The Dragon Kings are gorgeous, protective, fierce, gallant, amazing Scots.   They do their best to protect humanity from the Dark Fae while maintaining anonymity. Forces continually strive to expose their true dragon form to the world, to initiate their destruction.

The Dark Kings saga by Donna Grant is one of my all-time favorites out there.  And Inferno is the big one. Con's story. The King of Kings.  Is it worth the wait?  Absolutely it is.  Let's start with the standard warning, especially this far in if you are not familiar with the Dragon Kings, do not start here.  You are going to spoil a whole slew of books if you read this first and believe me, it is a fun test of patience trying to figure out who Con's mate is.

And the not so standard warning that I will not be able to review further without spoilers. Last chance, stop here if you do not want to spoil, well, the entire series. Of course, everyone's fantasy of how things were supposed to happen are different.  I spent hours analyzing Con and Rhi over the years, and I almost had myself convinced they were not mates.  Until the beginning of 2020, when I ran across the big spoil. I didn't have to read it, but I did, and after the last book, I would have swung back around to that conclusion anyway.  In short, Con and Rhi were no surprise.  I enjoyed getting their flashbacks.  I liked that Rhi made Con work for it. I almost wish we could have got the reveal a few books ago.  That way, Con REALLY would have had to work for it, but that might have been too torturous.

The Usaeil reveal was a bit unexpected.  I know some are a bit offended by it, but it makes a warped bit of sense.  Honestly, I think it is a great final f you.  Her past comes back to bite her in the butt.  And Erith's nice little secret, oh boy.  That one was almost over the top, but I like where it will lead us.

Melisse and Henry, I approve, if it is what I think it is, and it better be.  She is just awesome.  I mean she's like Maleficent, how is that not the coolest thing ever.  And Balladyn still needs his happy ending.  These are my wishes for the future.  So with the mate of the King of Dragon Kings, the Usaeil saga is closed.  Good frickin riddance.  I will now continue my series reread so I can grin every time Con and Rhi start in on each other.  I know your secret now.

Blood and Ash: The Jezebel Files, Book One by Deborah Wilde

ABOUT THE BOOK

Cold-blooded kidnappers. Long-lost magic. When things get serious, she goes full Sherlock.

Ashira Cohen takes pride in being the only female private investigator in Vancouver. With her skills, her missing persons case should be a piece of cake.

She wasn't counting on getting bashed in the skull, revealing a hidden tattoo and supernatural powers she shouldn't possess.

Or the bitter icing on top: a spree of abductions and terrifying ghostly creatures on a deadly bender.

And don't even get her started on the golems.

Reluctantly partnered with her long-time nemesis Levi, the infuriating leader of the magic community, Ash resolves to keep her focus on the clue trail and off their sexual tension because WTF is up with that?

But with a mastermind organization pulling strings from the shadows and Levi's arrogance driving her to pick out his body bag, can Ash rescue the captives and uncover the truth or will the next blood spilled be her own?

Blood & Ash is the epic first novel in The Jezebel Files. If you like headstrong heroines, complex mysteries, and a dash of red-hot romance, you'll love Deborah Wilde's laugh out loud tale.

Get it now!

REVIEW

Ashira Cohen lives in a world where part of the populace is magically adept. Trying to make it as a mundane detective, where the jobs make less money and are less exciting, Ash attempts to make the best of it.  During a case, a head injury puts her on a path she never thought possible.

I was ecstatic when I discovered NetGalley is now giving out audiobook arcs, which is my preferred method of reading.  A narrator can make or break the audiobook journey, and this was a good one. Hollie Jackson does a good job narrating Blood and Ash: The Jezebel Files, Book One. I never felt her interpretation was disingenuous to the characters.  I was able to simply kick back, listen, and lose myself in Ash's world.

Blood and Ash by Deborah Wilde is my kind of book. I'll be honest you will find elements in this story that exist in a lot of other urban fantasy/ paranormal romances.  But that did not make it any less enjoyable for me.  The supernatural had enough of a uniqueness that I was not comparing constantly to stories from my past. I was engaged and interested in the magical world Ash lives in.

Ash is sassy, amusing, and tough.  Her complicated relationship with her mother drew me in as does the one with her childhood "nemesis" Levi.  Love stories derived from a couple who think they despise each other are most interesting to me.  The conflict in the chase always amps up the passion, and Ash and Levi have it in abundance.

In short, Blood and Ash is excellent and well worth listening to the audiobook.  After finishing, I immediately started book two, Death and Desire, and now wait impatiently for the audio of book three, Shadows and Surrender.

Flame by Donna Grant

ABOUT THE BOOK

Flame is the next Dark Kings book in New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant's series.

If she believed in destiny, she would believe they were meant for each other.
But that fire was put out long ago. . .

Living among the Dragon Kings, Cain has spent lifetimes learning to distrust both mortals and Fae. He is a warrior born—and every instinct demands that he fight to keep his own kind safe. But when a fringe member of the Dark Fae contacts the Kings with an urgent warning, Cain is torn for the first time. How can he trust this beautiful creature when resisting his primal attraction to her is battle enough?

Noreen is horrified by what her kind and the malevolent Others are planning for the Dragon Kings. Dark Fae or not, there are lines she will not cross—even if it means risking her life. But she never imagined that she would risk her heart until she meets Cain. She wants him with a soul-deep desire that frightens her…and endangers them both. Is saying goodbye to everything Noreen has ever known worth a love that will span time and realms?

Praise for the Dark Kings series:

“Provocative [and] sizzling.”—RT Book Reviews (4 stars)

“A must-read.”—Night Owl Reviews

REVIEW

Flame by Donna Grant places the Dragon Kings of Scotland at the end of a progressively developing war. As good as this news is, we are beginning to gauge the extensive toll it is taken on several principal characters. With the most important battle yet to come, some personal issues need to be properly resolved before the team can present a unified front.

Cain and Noreen suffer a challenging time during their budding romance. Their tale is tense and gripping. The couple's chemistry is fantastic, and their resolution is completely satisfying. Absolutely, under no circumstances, should you willingly miss this remarkable book. We are in deep guys and boy is there a stunning, informative, and exciting amount of lore addressed here. Many of my theories are this close to being revealed, and it is driving me crazy, in a pleasing way.

One warning, if the Dark Kings series is unfamiliar, it is probably inadvisable to start here. The couple's story is independent, but the backdrop has advanced over several books. Reading Flame will spoil the larger storyline if one starts at the beginning later, which I highly suggest doing.

Thank you, Donna Grant, for this brilliant book and amazing series! I am completely satisfied with what Flame delivers us readers and cannot wait for more.

Broken Dawn by Dianne Duvall

REVIEW

The Immortal Guardian series, a standard recommendation to everyone I talk to, takes a unique spin on the vampire mythology, one that sets it far apart from other PNRS. I adore Dianne Duvall's heroes and heroines. Her Immortals are powerful and protective without being domineering. Here you will not encounter the stereotypical situation of the male domineering the female. The couples are equal in tenacity, clever wit, and charm. I enjoyed shifting away from North Carolina to Texas in this installment, while still keeping a direct connection to the original group.

Nick and Kayla have marvelous chemistry, and they were absolutely adorable together. Their relationship slowly develops over time, and when they discover the mutual reciprocation, their interactions are wonderfully steamy. The action and suspense are on par with what I expect from this remarkable series. Everything that I appreciate about the Immortal Guardians is present in Broken Dawn. Dianne Duvall does not disappoint.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Broken Dawn
Book #10 Immortal Guardians
By Dianne Duvall

June 16, 2020

Delve into an exciting new stand-alone novel in New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall's "fast-paced and humorous" (Publishers Weekly), "utterly addictive" (RT Book Reviews) Immortal Guardians series.

Nick Belanger can't stop thinking about the single mother who lives next door. She's smart. She's funny. She's so beautiful he can't stare at her too long for fear his eyes will start to glow. But Kayla thinks he's just an ordinary guy who works in security. Finding out he instead is a powerful immortal warrior who hunts and slays psychotic vampires for a living may not go over well, particularly since she has a daughter she doesn't want to endanger.

Kayla Dorman can keep neither her gaze nor her thoughts from straying to the man next door. Who can blame her really? He is the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome with smart, charming, and honorable thrown in. He's also a few years younger than her and surely would not be interested in a single mom who hasn't dated since her divorce. At least that's what she thinks until an accident nearly takes her life and Nick risks all to save her.

The dynamics of their relationship swiftly change. The friendship they've developed over the years deepens into love as the two spend every minute they can together, laughing and teasing, never suspecting a threat may lurk in the shadows. But that threat soon strikes, making it clear that Nick is the target and his enemy doesn't care if Kayla gets caught in the cross fire. Though Kayla bravely rises to the occasion and is determined to do whatever it takes to help Nick defeat his enemy, Nick is terrified of losing her. Can he identify and eliminate his new nemesis before the man takes everything from him?

Character Interview

Hello! Thank you for joining us! I’m very excited to be here today, celebrating the release of BROKEN DAWN, an exciting new stand-alone novel in my Immortal Guardians series. If you like powerful preternatural heroes, strong heroines, action scenes that will keep you flipping pages well past your bedtime, and romance that is alternately steamy and sweet and laced with humor, then I hope you’ll pick up a copy. If you’re new to the Immortal Guardians series, don’t worry. You can easily dive into this one without feeling lost.

To give you a hint of what you’ll find in the series, I thought I would have Sheldon, one of the humans in the series (and a favorite of many readers, thanks to the comic relief he provides) interview Nick and Kayla, the hero and heroine. :-)

Sheldon: Hi, guys. Thanks for agreeing to sit down with me for an interview.

Nick: We’re happy to do it.

Kayla: *offers him a hesitant smile* I’m sorry. I’ve met a LOT of new people here at David’s place and don’t remember your name.

Sheldon: No worries. I’m Sheldon.

Kayla: Nice to meet you. Are you human, gifted one, or immortal?

Sheldon: Human. I’m Richart’s Second. *sighs* Man, I WISH I were immortal.

Marcus: *snorts as he walks past* The rest of us don’t. You wreak enough havoc as a mortal. I shudder to think what chaos you’d create as an immortal.

Sheldon: Oh, ha freaking ha. Ignore him. Where were we?

Nick: You were about to interview us.

Sheldon: Right.

Marcus: *passes by again with a bag of chips* While the rest of us shudder at the thought of you as an immortal.

Sheldon: Aren’t you supposed to be hunting psychotic vampires or something?

Marcus: Seth gave me the night off.

Sheldon: *mutters under his breath as Marcus disappears down a hallway*

Kayla: *looks at Nick* What is this interview for, anyway? I thought the whole Immortal Guardians, vampires, gifted ones thing was supposed to be hush-hush.

Nick: It is. The last thing we need is for the military or more mercenary groups to find out about us.

Sheldon: *nods* This is just a thing I do for Network employees. Some of the humans who work for the Immortal Guardians never actually see them in person, so I like to do interviews like this to help them get to know the powerful men and women they help.

Kayla: That’s really nice.

Sheldon: *preens a little* Thank you. So . . . Kayla. You’ve lived next door to this guy *jerks a thumb toward Nick* for six years, give or take. Didn’t you ever suspect he might be . . . different?

Kayla: No. I just thought he was a friendly, funny, hot guy who worked security and frequented most of my illicit fantasies.

Nick: *eyes her speculatively* Most?

Kayla: *grins* All. I didn’t want to give you a big head.

Sheldon: Too late.

Nick: *laughs and loops an arm around her shoulders* I had a heck of a time hiding what I am from her.

Sheldon: Because she turned you on and made your eyes glow?

Nick: Yes.

Sheldon: Kinda like they’re glowing right now?

Nick: *swears* Yes.

Kayla: *laughs*

Sheldon: Wait. You aren’t telepathic, are you, Kayla? Because I’ve had to cut many an interview short because I couldn’t keep the couples from talking dirty to each other telepathically.

Kayla: No. I’m not a telepath.

Sheldon: Good.

Kayla: *sends Nick a heated look* But I do have empathic abilities and am picking up on some pretty interesting emotions from Nick here.

Sheldon: *scowls at Nick* Down, boy.

Nick: *laughs*

Sheldon: Nick, all Immortal Guardians were born gifted ones with advanced DNA that gave them special gifts even BEFORE they were infected with the vampiric virus.

Nick: Correct.

Sheldon: What gift were you born with?

Nick: No comment.

Sheldon: *blinks* What?

Nick: No comment.

Sheldon: Really?

Kayla: *smiles* He’s a little . . . uneasy about revealing it to others.

Nick: And some of my fellow immortals warned me not to tell you.

Sheldon: *frowns* What? Why?

Nick: They said once you find out what an immortal can do, you always push for a demonstration.

Sheldon: No, I don’t.

Nick: *arches a brow* Did you or did you not ask Dana to try to see your future?

Sheldon: I did. But that doesn’t count because she didn’t see my future. She saw my past.

Nick: And now she can’t look you in the eye without blushing.

Kayla: *laughs* Really? Why?

Nick: Apparently he’s into some very—

Sheldon: My sex stuff is not that weird! *flushes a deep red*

Kayla: *eyes widen* What?

Nick: *laughs*

Sheldon: Nothing. That was just an . . . aberration.

Nick: The sex stuff Dana saw? I agree.

Sheldon: *frowns* Not the sex stuff. My asking Dana to employ her gift.

Nick: Didn’t you routinely ask Richart to teleport you all over the world until he refused to ever do it again after the incident in France?

Sheldon: You uh . . . you heard about that?

Nick: EVERYONE heard about that.

Sheldon: Okay, there’s an explanation for that.

Nick: And did you not ask Seth to shape-sift into a dragon so you could climb onto his back and ride him like a pony?

Sheldon: I did nnnnnn—

Nick: *narrows his eyes*

Sheldon: —nnnnot realize you heard about that, too. Okay. Next subject. Kayla, I hear you can kick ass.

Kayla: *eyebrows fly up* Oh. I don’t know about that.

Nick: She does. She kicks ass. It’s a total turn-on.

Sheldon: Yes, it is.

Nick: *scowls* Not to you it isn’t.

Sheldon: Not to me it isn’t. Absolutely. I meant women in general kicking ass is a turn-on. I love strong women.

Nick: *smiles down at Kayla* I do, too.

Kayla: *leans up to kiss him*

Sheldon: Nope. Nuh-uh. No mushy stuff until I ask my next question.

Nick and Kayla: Okay.

Sheldon: While we’re on the topic of strong women . . . Kayla, you thought you were older than Nick, right?

Kayla: Right. *frowns* Wait. What does that have to do with strong women?

Nick: *whispers* I think he’s talking about Tracy.

Kayla: Who’s Tracy?

Nick: Lisette’s Second.

Kayla: Oh. Right. I met her. She’s nice.

Nick: She’s also Sheldon’s girlfriend.

Sheldon: *nods* She’s nine years older than me and kind of fixates on that. I was hoping to get some advice on how I might her past that.

Nick: Are you sure she’s fixating on that and not the weird sex stuff?

Sheldon: Hey, Tracy is fine with the sex stuff. She just doesn’t like that she’d older than me.

Tracy: *calls from down the hallway* Dude! You told them I’m older than you?

Sheldon: *eyes widen* Oh crap. I, uh . . . *jumps up* I’m gonna have to go take care of that. *hurries down the hallway* See you later!

Kayla: *smiles up at Nick* You think he’s going to employ some weird sex stuff to make it up to her?

Nick: *grins* I don’t know. But I wouldn’t mind employing some weird sex stuff myself right about now.

Kayla: *laughs and gives him a kiss* Sounds good to me.
